OPIATE ADDICTION TOOK HALF MY LIFE! METHADONE GAVE IT BACK!!
70ADDICT TO OPIATES? THEN QUIT!!!!!
The year was 1995. My wife and I had been married less than a year and she was pregnant with our son. I had gotten a job at a mobile home plant about a mile up the road from our house. I had great insurance and was making $10.75 an hr,which was damn good pay in our area in the early 90's. My wife was so proud of me and we were about as happy as a couple of newlyweds could be.
I worked as a "top-builder" in the "top dept" along with 3 other guys, building 8-10 tops a day. We were a helluva team and busted our butts 5-6 days a week,9-10 hrs a day. I was kickin' some major change in overtime.
It was around Xmas, after my son was born, that the plant upped production and hired quiet a few new people in every dept. The top dept got a few lil' young fellas and one of them was my helper. He was pretty hard worker and it shocked the crap outta me at how damn hard he worked!! One day he was flying around whooping and hollering and I asked him," man what the hell u on boy?" He grinned and said "3pink 10's".
We were working over and I was all but dead. So he hands me a "pink 10" and says it would help me get thru the day. I took it and HOT DAMN!!! I was running around doing my job and two more!!! The next day I took another. Then another. Then another.
Within 3 weeks I was spending $125 week on lortabs. And I never let up!! For 17 years I have been a pill head. I've sold everything we've owned multiple times. We have had utilities cut off every few months and my family has lived a miserable existence for our entire time together. My son has never had a decent Xmas, birthday or anything. All our money has went to keep me in pills.............
...........Untill a year ago.......
I was at my moms house and was brainstorming on a way to come up with some pills. The funny thing was I had money, but couldn't find pills. So I decided to try a doctor that prescribed suboxone. My thinking was I could snort them till the script ran out and move on to whatever.
The problem was I couldn't get a damned appointment for a week!! No way in hell I could wait an entire week to get high!!! So I wore out the phonebook looking for doctors, clinics, etc.
That's when I stumbled upon a place that changed my life,my families' life and my entire way of thinking. It was The Methadone Clinic. I Thank God I found this place and the wonderful ppl there. They honestly saved my life!!!!!!! I'm not shooting no crap here ppl!!!! I'm serious as I can be!!!!
I have been an opiate junkie for 17 years!! I have spent $400-$600 a week on pills for as long as I can remember! ! I was eating 12 $5 tabs a day every damn day!! If not tabs it was percocets. No percs, then I'd snort OC 80's. No OC'S? I would hunt heroin.
Folks,I swear to u on everything I love!!..... I haven't taken an opiate, pill, powder, smoked pot,Meth or even drank alcohol in 8 1/2 MONTHS!!!!!!!! NO DRUGS OF ANY KIND!!!!! Methadone saved my life!!!!!
I now spend $70 a week!! I bought me a 2003 mustang GT. My wife a Camaro and my son a 350 Banshee ATV. We are trying to get moved into a new home and we actually OWN 10 acres of land!!!! It amazing! !!!!! I wish to GOD I had done this years ago!!!
Anyone who doesn't believe this will help them....don't want help!! Anyone who says they've tried and failed ......never did methadone only!!!! Anyone who says its swapping one addiction for another doesn't know a damn thing about addiction!!!
Ppl please!! If you're an opiate addict and tired of it- this is better!! I swear this will work!! U never felt this good on any damn pill!! U never moved so quick or bounced outta bed so early!!! This will work!!!
If u have a wife, husband or child on pills...get them to a clinic!!! Support them!!! I promise in a week you will see the difference! !! If you love them you'll try anything to save them!!!
METHADONE WORKS!!!!! I SWEAR IT DOES!! ASK MY FAMILY
BEAT OPIATES! DONT LET OPIATES BEAT YOU!!

I would just like to start with cudo's on your recovery and it sounds to me like you are working the program. But I melsef am a former director of a methadone program for 5 years have a small concern I would like to share with you. Please don't get caught up in the methadone treatment. While short term 1-2 years there a ton of benifits for anyone active in recovery, BUT please know this is not a life long medication because there are MANY AND I MEAN MANY HEALTH RISKS INVOLVED. Please make sure you do all other steps to get yourself ready to live clean and sober some day :) And continue to be blessed!!
Missi, I'd be interested to know what some of the long-term health risks are of being on methadone for more than a year or two?
I understand your passion for your recovery and I will not get into a big debate here. But here is a link
http://www.livestrong.com/article/289017-long-term
I have a ton more if you want? Yes, methadone has its benefits but it also has side effects. The government just realize its benefits out weighed it's harm or so they think....just food for thought!!
@Missi - Hi Missi. Nothing wrong with a little friendly debate as long as all parties stay respectful :) I read the link you posted and I do agree with the facts about methadone making you constipated, as well as it making you sleepy. If your dose is too high, it can make you REALLY sleepy, but even adequate doses can cause a little drowsiness. I definitely experienced those side effects while on methadone maintenance (though no tooth decay, thank God).
I was on methadone for eight years, and got off of it four months ago, and since then everything in my body has gone back to normal. I guess that's why I wasn't considering any of those symptoms as "long-term" side effects, since mine went away. I thought you meant there are long-term side effects that continue even after you've detoxed. Certainly they are long-term side effects if someone stays on methadone for a very long time, lol. Semantics! Have a great day :)

Hello STRA8BAMA. Congratulations on your amazing achievement. I have a feeling that your rewards will continue. May I make a suggestion concerning punctuation since it is obvious that you have something important to say? (You have a story, here...). Only one thing. Remember to space after commas. With that said, I could hear your dismay in how you conducted yourself, but more than that, I could feel your courage. Wonderful voice! Keep educating others with your story. Thanks.
